Dydžiai ir matai lydi mus visur – nuo fizikinių, reiškiamų skaitmenine verte, kuriais matuojamas visas materialusis pasaulis, darbo užmokesčio, tauriųjų metalų prabų, drabužių, svorio indeksų, kūno apimčių (turinčių raidžių, simbolių, skaičių pavidalą) dydžių, informacinių technologijų matų (kilobaitų, megabaitų, gigabaitų) iki perkeltinių prasmių, atspindinčių žmogaus autoriteto, savivertės, bendražmogiškų vertybių ar tapatybės matą. Standartiškai nustatyti matmenys (20 × 20 cm) – esminis tekstilės miniatiūros bruožas. Sakoma, kad ne dydis lemia meno kūrinio vertę. Vis dėlto įprasta manyti, kad mažas formatas įspraudžia menininką į siauresnius rėmus, kelia tam tikrus iššūkius, reikalauja ypatingo kruopštumo ir techninių gebėjimų. Kita vertus, gal daro kūrinį paslankesnį, paprasčiau transportuojamą, leidžia autoriui lengviau daryti fizinį poveikį formai, eksperimentuoti? Taigi matmuo – riboja menininko saviraišką ar skatina jai atsiskleisti? Parodos dalyviai kviečiami apmąstyti savo santykį su nustatytais matais, standartais, etalonais, normomis, gvildenti kūrinio matmenų (dydžio) ir jo vertės santykį, gilintis į tai, kaip keičia kūrinį mažesnis formatas, o galbūt pasiūlyti savo pasaulio matymą atitinkančius matmenis ir standartus. Ką autoriui kūryboje reiškia matmuo, dydžio matas?

Menininkai kviečiami reflektuoti matmens, dydžio, mato koncepciją keliais aspektais:

1. Tiesiogine prasme, kaip savo kūrybos santykį su daugelyje šalių įsigaliojusia Si matavimo vienetų sistema, apibūdinančia dydį, svorį, temperatūrą, greitį, laiką ir kt., pradėta kurti Prancūzijos revoliucijos metu kaip etalonų sistema (pirmieji svorio ir ilgio etalonai sukurti 1799). Tačiau ši paroda gal paskatins prisiminti senuosius prigimtinius lietuviškus matus, kilusius iš žmogaus standartinių kūno dalių dydžių: pėda, sprindis, uolektis, sieksnis? O gal menininkai pasiūlys matuoti kūrybą savo atrastais matais – dygsniu, raštu, ataudų pynėmis?
2. Platesne perkeltine prasme, traktuojant matą kaip meninį, fizinį, moralinį, socialinės laikysenos standartą, įspraudžiantį ir ribojantį individualybę, tačiau kartu palengvinantį egzistenciją laikantis visuotinai priimtinų elgesio normų. Norima išsiaiškinti, kokias normas autoriai aktualizuoja savo kūryboje.
3. Lingvistine semantine prasme, matmenį prilyginant metmeniui – bet kurio audinio pagrindui tekstilėje, o matą (dydį) – šachmatų ėjimui, reiškiančiam paskutinį pergalingą žingsnį. Gal žodis „matas“ sukels asociacijų su Šv. Mato evangelisto asmeniu?

Į parodą priimami tiek tradiciniai, tiek inovacijomis (neįprastos medžiagos, naujos technologijos ir meninės
priemonės) grįsti darbai, tačiau siekiama skatinti nestandartinį mąstymą, intelektualų požiūrį, bendradarbiavimą su įvairių sričių menininkais, mokslininkais, literatais.

Kviečiame dalyvauti visus menininkus, dirbančius įvairiomis tekstilės meno technikomis arba naudojančius tekstilės elementus kūryboje.

Kviečiame teikti 1-3 anksčiau neeksponuotus darbus. Kūrinio technikos – neribojamos. Darbų dydis neturi viršyti 20x20x20 cm. Kūriniai gali būti erdviniai, sudedami iš kelių dalių ar sulankstomi.

Laukiame paraiškų iki 2019 m. rugsėjo 20 d. su žemiau išvardytais priedais:

• CD su spalvotomis darbų nuotraukomis (kokybė tinkama katalogo spaudai – ne mažiau 300 dpi, CMYK, RGB, failo dydis ne didesnis nei 5Mb);
• užpildytą dalyvio anketą su kataloginiais duomenimis, autoriaus trumpą kūrybinę CV.

Sizes and measures accompany us everywhere – from the physical ones expressed in numerical value and used to measure the entire material world, wages, hallmarks of precious metals, clothes, body mass indexes, body sizes (in the shapes of letters, symbols, and numbers), information technology measures (kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes) to figurative meanings that reflect a measure of human authority, self-worth, human values, or identity.

The standard size of 20 × 20 cm is an essential feature of a miniature textile. It is said that size does not determine the value of an artwork. However, it is customary to think that small format narrows the artist’s playfield, poses certain challenges, requires extreme diligence and technical skill. On the other hand, it might make the artwork more flexible, easier to transport and also allows the artist to experiment and physically influence the shape. So, does the measure limit the artist’s self-expression or encourages it to flourish? The participants of the exhibition are invited to reflect on their relationship with established measures, standards, benchmarks, norms, to explore the relationship between the artwork’s size and its value and question how the smaller format changes the artwork or maybe suggest the measures and standards suiting their specific worldview. What does the measure, the standard of size, mean to the author in his/her work?

The artists are invited to reflect on the concept of measure, size, standard in several ways:

1. In a literal sense of the term: as a relationship of their work to SI international system of units that defines size, weight, temperature, speed, time, etc. Its development started during the French revolution, as a benchmark system (the first weight and length standards were created in 1799). But perhaps this exhibition will serve as a reminder of the ancient Lithuanian measures derived from the standard human body part sizes: foot, span, cubit, sagene? Or maybe artists will suggest measuring artworks with their own invented benchmarks – stitch, pattern, weft plaits?
2. In a broader, figurative sense, treating the measure as an artistic, physical, and moral standard of social presence that boxes and limits individuality while also facilitating the existence when everyone is adhering to universally accepted rules of conduct. The aim is to find out what norms the authors chose to make relevant in their work.
3. Linguistically and semantically, by equating the measure with warp for the base of any fabric in textile and the standard (size) with the move in chess representing the winning move.

Both traditional and innovative works (unusual materials, new technologies, and artistic means) are accepted into the exhibition, however, the aim is to promote nonstandard thinking, intellectual approach, and cooperation with various artists, scientists, and litterateurs.

We invite all the artists working with different textile art techniques or using the elements of textile art in their work. You are welcome to submit 1-3 previously unexhibited works. The techniques are unlimited but the size must not exceed 20x20x20 cm. The artworks can be spatial, multi-part or foldable. We look forward to your applications along with the following supplements until September 20, 2019:

• CD with color photographs of your works (the quality must be suitable for catalog printing – no less than 300 dpi, CMYK, RGB; file size cannot be larger than 5Mb);
• a completed participant’s questionnaire with catalog data and a short CV of the artist;
• application form filled.
